FAQsHow often do board meetings occur, and when are they held?
Board meetings are typically held once a month, usually in the late morning or early afternoon. However, the exact 2025 schedule is still being determined. Some months may not have a board meeting, or the meeting may be held virtually.
What is the time commitment for the strategic planning session?
The strategic planning session is a full-day event that takes place on a Saturday in late January. Board members will receive more details about what to expect as the date approaches.
What are the expectations for attending chapter events?
Board members are encouraged to attend chapter events whenever possible to engage with fellow members, sponsors, and patrons who support the chapter. These events may include networking events, conferences, awards celebrations, advocacy events, and various chapter programs. Complimentary admission to select events is provided to board members each year.
What is the time commitment for a board member’s responsibilities?
Time commitments vary depending on the specific role and responsibilities. In addition to attending board meetings, board members are expected to periodically meet with any board counterparts and staff connected to their roles outside of meetings. This ensures that programs are thoroughly managed, strategized, and supported.
Is there any compensation or reimbursement for serving on the board?
Board positions are voluntary and unpaid. However, board members receive complimentary admission to select chapter events and may be reimbursed for certain expenses related to their role (subject to board approval).
2026 President
The President-elect supports the current President while preparing to lead the organization in the following year. You will play a key role in setting board policies, coordinating with the Executive Director, and ensuring that AIA Atlanta’s activities reflect its mission and values.
Secretary
As Secretary, you will manage and safeguard the chapter’s records, oversee the accuracy of governing documents, and ensure that board meetings and activities are well-documented. You’ll also act as the parliamentarian, guiding the board on procedural matters and governance.
Communications Director
As the Communications Director, you will set and execute the strategic media direction for AIA Atlanta, ensuring that our communications align with AIA initiatives and resonate with our members. You’ll lead efforts to promote member achievements, develop media campaigns, and enhance the chapter’s public presence.
Emerging Professionals Director
The Emerging Professionals Director is dedicated to increasing the value and visibility of AIA membership among Associates, students, and young professionals. You will act as a liaison with key groups, develop membership programs, and support young architects as they advance in their careers.
Local Political Advocacy Director
The Advocacy Director identifies and champions key public policy issues affecting the architectural profession. You will build relationships with community leaders, organize events on pressing topics, and lead efforts to influence local government policies that align with AIA’s priorities.
Membership Director
The Membership Programs Director leads the charge in maintaining and growing AIA Atlanta’s membership. You’ll spearhead campaigns, coordinate firm outreach events, and work closely with other board members to communicate the value of AIA membership to both firms and individual architects.
Programs Director
As the Programs Director, you will oversee AIA Atlanta’s wide array of events and initiatives, ensuring they align with the strategic goals of the organization. Your role involves developing new programs, evaluating existing ones, and working closely with staff to deliver impactful experiences to members and the public.
