The Materials & Resources section of LEED v5 represents one of the most significant evolutions in the rating system’s history, reshaping how project teams evaluate material impacts, carbon performance, and circularity strategies. Hosted by the AIA Atlanta Committee on the Environment (COTE®), this session will unpack the structure, intent, and technical requirements of the new MR credits, highlighting how LEED v5 aligns with global decarbonization goals and emerging market expectations for transparency, reuse, and responsible sourcing.
Attendees will explore how LEED v5 elevates whole building life cycle assessment, prioritizes low carbon and circular material pathways, and strengthens incentives for product transparency through EPDs, HPDs, and embodied carbon reporting. The session will also examine how the updated MR framework supports adaptive reuse, salvaged materials, and design for deconstruction – positioning project teams to reduce environmental impact while unlocking new opportunities for innovation and cost efficiency. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of how to navigate the new MR structure and how to leverage it to drive measurable carbon reductions and more resilient, circular building outcomes.
This presentation is being held both in person and virtually.
