Georgia has been growing for decades and shows no signs of stopping. Historically, Georgia’s growth patterns have been driven by a single type of development: low-intensity development. While this pattern has been the story in the Atlanta metro for decades, it is repeating in many of our smaller communities, which, for a long time, have relied on their land to support their economies, leisure, and quality of life. This presentation will cover how more sustainable design choices can build stronger communities and reduce fragmentation of Georgia’s natural landscape in the process.

• Highlight the structural challenges behind the proliferation of low-intensity development, and the lack of barriers facing low-intensity development types
