CRAN®: 2026 Georgia Building Codes Updates

Join the AIA Atlanta Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN®) and architect Ryan Taylor, AIA, for a live virtual meeting on the State of Georgia’s building codes.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs will adopt new statewide building codes, effective January 1, 2026. These new building codes encompass three of the four building codes that govern residential construction in Georgia; the energy code has yet to be updated.

Join us to review the format of the new codes, Georgia amendments, and where to find all of the building code information you need.

Learning objectives

  • Find and apply the Georgia amendments to the 2024 International Residential Code and 2024 International Plumbing Code.
  • Explain and argue for/against proposed amendments for changes to stair and riser dimenions, buried ducts and other proposals that were not adopted in the latest cycle yet will likely be re-introduced in the coming amendment cycle.
  • Find an apply the Georgia amendments to the 2023 National Electrical Code – new changes to address nuissance tripping, kitchen layouts, etc.
  • Explain changes in the 2024 International Energy Code prior to the beginning of the energy code task group starting in January 2026 with a likely effective date of January 01, 2027.
