AIA Atlanta’s Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN) invites architects, designers, researchers, builders, and allied practitioners to submit proposals for the second annual Reside symposium on housing and residential design. This event gathers professionals working across the residential spectrum to share research, exchange ideas, and shape the future of how we live.
Ideal proposals present successful strategies, original research, and inspiring frameworks that advance residential architecture as a discipline. Participants will leave with expanded knowledge, sharpened practice, and a stronger network of peers committed to the future of housing in Atlanta and beyond.

Theme: Know Place Like Home
Housing sits at the intersection of our most pressing challenges: affordability, climate, equity, demographics, and identity. The American household is changing, and so must the homes and the systems we design for it. Whether the project is a single custom residence or a 200-unit community, residential architecture today demands fluency across scale, deep engagement with policy and place, and an unwavering commitment to the people who will live there.
Following the theme of Know Place Like Home, CRAN asks the residential design community to explore the future of housing across typologies. These proposals move beyond product showcases and into the substantive questions facing our profession:
- How is the changing American household reshaping residential design, and how must we respond?
- What can custom residential excellence teach multi-family practice, and vice versa?
- How do we deliver housing that is genuinely affordable without compromising design quality?
- What does climate-resilient residential architecture look like in the Southeast?
- How are zoning reform, missing-middle policy, and ADUs reshaping the design opportunity?
- How do we design homes and housing that build community rather than isolation?
- What role does Atlanta play in shaping the future of Southern housing?
